Earlier today I was looking to see what I could find for a budget cd player locally and stumbled across the NAD C521BEE.
It looks like a pretty good unit and reviews have been positive but I thought I should check with the forums first.
I have a 521i its predecessor and have been happy with it.
читать />I have the NAD C521BEE.
I bought it about 6 months ago.
The only thing that my unit has done kind of funky was if I hit stop and then eject too fast, the cd would still be spinning as the CD door opened.
It not happened in a while.
I am still very happy with mine though.

Yes, I've had several NAD players and some of them do that.
It's horrible and it should not be happening.
This is a defect.
Make sure the player you buy does not do this before you buy.
I had one that ruined a good of my cd collection before I realized what it doing.

The NAD 521BEE, NAD 542 and Cambridge Azur 640 are my standard recomendations for great sounding CD players at affordable prices.
I forgot to mention that despite being mechanically unreliable if you get a bad example, NAD players do sound incredibly good for the price.
The 512 and 520 I think my favorites sonically.
I agree that NAD players are pretty analytical.
I have a 541i and I like the presentation a great deal with some of my CDs.
Particularly those HDCD encoded Grateful Dead remasters.
But for the bulk of my CD collection, I find the NAD a little less warm sounding than I prefer.
However, at the price, I'm not sure if I could find a player I like more.

Maybe I should get my CD player looked at before my warranty runs out!
I would still buy this NAD again.
PAT I'll join in--have an NAD 521 model between 520 and 521i.
Have never felt I needed better.
Zero problems with drive.
IIRC there were some reports of drive failures with the 520--but the number may have been amplified by the internet echo.
Mark Does anyone know if the NAD C542 player any of the mechanical problems noted above?
Also, is there anything else at this price point that is better?
I have always liked NAD in general.
From what I've read, reliability problems plagued older NAD CD players, but not the ones that have been released over the past few years.
The C 520 and C 540 were known for being very sensitive to scratched discs i.

Never had a problem with it.
Had it for almost 4 years now.
I really like the from it.

Does this one ruin discs???
We never saw any such problems with по этому адресу review sample of the 542, or with the members of the AudioEnz Forum who have this player.
And, outside of this thread, I've never heard of a NAD player ruining discs.
Also, is there anything else at this price point that is better?

The NAD 542 and Cambridge Audio Azur 640 CD players are both strong CD performers.
In New Zealand they're around the same price; who knows how the price comparison holds up anywhere else.
Above that you could listen to the Rotel 1072.
I had a NAD C521i CD player for over a year.
In that time it skipped on a few, maybe five or six CD's that I played out of hundreds.
All of the CD's that skipped were ones I burned from downloads from Emusic.
It never had a problem on a purchased CD that I owned.
A month or two ago I got the NAD C542 based on my positive experience with the 521i.
It has not skipped once and it has been used for hours each day.
I just bought the Cambridge 640c.
It is an awesome player for the price.
I recently auditioned the NAD C542 and the Rotel 1072 in my home system.
FWIW, I liked the sound of the NAD better because to me it has a better balance between highs and lows.
The sounded good - maybe more detailed than the NAD - but the highs seemed a bit more pronounced not in a harsh way though.
KCJayyar - thanks for the opinion on the Cambridge 640c and Denon 2910.
I've been leaning towards getting a CD-only player, but having nagging doubts about whether the 2910 might be just fine for redbook and more versatile.
I have the Pioneer 563a and a 12yr old Denon CD changer.
Have you heard the C542, and if so, how would you compare it to the 640c?
Very warm and musical to me.
I like it so much, in fact, that I've been hesitant to invest in a "budget" SACD player fearing that it won't play standard CDs nearly as well as the NAD.
It does have issues with some CD-Rs unfortunately.
Clear blanks, no matter the brand, seem to work best.

Actually, I did a proper sit down, mix and match test with the following components: NAD 320BEE amp + 520BEE cdp cambridge audio azur 640a amp + 640c cdp Marantz pm7200 amp + 5400 cdp after listening to the 3 "one-make" systems individually, and then mixing and matching each item around the shop was very helpful and patient, and ever so slightly curious themselves I couldn't come up with a beter sound to my ears than both the cambridge items.
One bloke in the shop preferred the azur cdp with the Marantz amp, another liked the Nad amp with the azur cdp.
I'm sorry if that hasn't exactly helped, but that's the problem with forum life, I'm afraid.
I am using a Sony 775 SACD player which I will keep and use for SACD and am considering purchasing the NAD C542 for redbook playback.
I take it this a worth while upgrade compared to the Sony 775 redbook performance?
I had the NAD C521BEE CD player for a while and liked it very very much.
I felt it really had a great sound for the price.
The C541i sounded as good, a bit better but not much better than that BEE.
But the C541i came with HDCD decoding and that was a plus.
And it was great.

I take it this LTD133EX2Z 13,3 TFT дисплей worth while upgrade compared to the Sony 775 redbook performance?
I like the NAD better, and it gives Oasis 20 кВт Газовый RT-20 двухконтурный котел HDCD.
I still use my 775 in by second system for SACD's.
